A Hidden Gem in Sinchon Discovered by Chance
Around 7 PM on a Saturday evening, my friends and I were looking for a new bar in Sinchon. We wanted something different from our usual spots, and as we walked along Yonsei-ro 7-gil behind Yonsei University, we stumbled upon a sign for Sansan BBQ Chicken Sinchon Main Store.
'It's a chicken place... but it feels different?' I thought, and opened the door out of curiosity. And it was truly amazing!
Spacious and Comfortable Venue, Perfect for Group Gatherings
As soon as I entered, I thought, 'Wow, it's spacious!' The tables were generously spaced, and it seemed like it could easily accommodate about 20 people. In times like these, it was really nice to find such a large space.
The clean interior and subtle lighting created a perfect atmosphere for chatting with friends. It seemed like a great place for company dinners or gatherings.
The Shocking Taste of Unique Seasoned Chicken
When I looked at the menu, my eyes widened. It was full of seasonings like Perilla Cream, Toumba Rose, and Basil Cheongyang. I was skeptical about whether they would really taste good, but I decided to order a jumbo chicken with half Perilla Cream and half Toumba Rose.
To cut to the chase, it was really delicious! The Perilla Cream was savory and smooth, pairing perfectly with the chicken, and the Toumba Rose was creamy with a slightly spicy, addictive taste.
The Perfect Combination of Dry Rub and Steam Roasting
When the chicken came out and I took a bite, I was really surprised. The outside was crispy, but the inside was incredibly moist. Later, I asked a staff member, and they said they use a combination of dry rub and steam roasting.
It was the first time I had chicken with such a texture, and I understood why this place was gaining word-of-mouth popularity. Even though it was a jumbo size, it was enough for three people to eat their fill.
Perfect Side Dishes
It felt a bit lacking to only eat chicken, so we ordered side dishes like Corn Cheese Buldak and Sotteok Sotteok. The Corn Cheese Buldak was addictively tasty, and the Sotteok Sotteok was chewy and even more delicious when eaten with the chicken.
The side dishes were in the 10,000 won range, and the portions were generous and the taste was great, so I thought the value for money was excellent. Especially the corn cheese, which had a real cheese flavor that surprised me.
The Joy of Whiskey Beer for 4,800 Won
What really surprised me here was that the whiskey beer was 4,800 won! Usually, it costs 7-8,000 won elsewhere. The subtle whiskey aroma paired really well with the chicken.
There were various types of highballs, so I want to try different drinks next time. With this quality at this price, it felt like finding a hidden gem in Sinchon.
Directions and Practical Tips
The location is a 5-minute walk from Sinchon Station Exit 2, towards Yonsei University, on Yonsei-ro 7-gil. It might be a bit hard to find as it's inside an alley, but the sign is quite noticeable, so you don't need to worry too much.
You need to use a nearby paid parking lot, and it seems they don't take reservations. When we went around 7 PM, there were seats available, but since it can get crowded on weekend evenings, it's better to go early.
Recognized for Great Value
The jumbo chicken is in the low 20,000 won range, and it was really enough for three people to eat their fill. The taste was good, and the atmosphere was nice, so the satisfaction level was really high for the price.
I thought it was a perfect place for students or colleagues to come and enjoy without any burden. It was really nice to find such a value-for-money place in Sinchon.
Becoming a New Regular Spot
Honestly, there are so many chicken places in Sinchon. But it's rare to find a place with such unique seasonings and a great atmosphere. The staff were friendly, and most importantly, the food was delicious, so I'm already planning when to come next.
Next time, I want to try the Cheongyang Basil seasoning and bring more friends to enjoy together. If you're looking for a new chicken spot in Sinchon, I highly recommend it!
