
A Real Wood-Fired Pizza Gem in 성수동 - An Honest Review of 피제리아히오

A gem of a pizza spot in 성수동 we stumbled upon
We found this place by chance while strolling through the alleys of 성수동 for a late lunch after a weekend walk in 서울숲. The blue door really caught my eye. The name 피제리아히오 sounded Italian and special, so we went in out of curiosity.
You could smell wood burning from the entrance, so I knew they were baking pizzas in a real wood-fired oven. As soon as we stepped inside, we could see a handsome oven etched with 'KON' in the open kitchen.
Ambience and first impressions

It was cozier than I expected, but the tables were spaced comfortably and everything felt neat. Sitting by the window, we could look out onto the streets of 성수동 while we ate, which made for a great vibe. Even on a weekday afternoon, people kept coming in—definitely a spot with a reputation.
While walking us through the menu, the staff told us they bake in the oven using 100% oak wood only. The chef’s name is '효', and the shop name is the Italianized spelling 'hio'—that little backstory made it feel even more special.
Choosing the menu and ordering

The menu was more varied than I expected. They have everything from their signature pies to classics like Margherita, plus pastas and even steak. After some deliberation, we figured we’d go for it and ordered the signature '아르코 발레노' (28,000 won). Apparently it means 'rainbow.'
My friend ordered the '피자 히오' (26,000 won). For drinks, we got an Americano (5,000 won). They said it would take about 15–20 minutes, so we waited with anticipation.
Finally, the taste of the wood-fired pizzas

Wow... the aroma hit us the moment the pizzas arrived. The crust had some light char, which they say is the sign of a true wood-fired bake. The first bite revealed a crust that was both wonderfully chewy and crisp.
The toppings were generous and varied—mozzarella, Parmigiano, tomatoes, basil... It had me thinking, so this is what it tastes like in Italy. And the way the cheese stretched was perfect for Instagram, haha.

I tried a slice of my friend’s 피자 히오 too, and it was delicious as well. Simpler in flavor, which actually let the ingredients shine. Both were totally my style.
Value and practical info

The prices aren’t exactly cheap, but for this level of quality, I think it’s more than fair. One pie is a good size for 2–3 people. Above all, that true wood-fired flavor makes it good value in my book.
Parking was easy—there’s a free lot behind the building. By public transit, the closest is 뚝섬역 Exit 5, and it’s also walkable from 서울숲역 or 성수역.
Visiting tips and things to note

They’re open from 11:30 AM to 9 PM, with a break from 3 to 5 PM. I didn’t know and luckily arrived around 2, so I could still eat. Last orders are at 8:30 PM—good to know.
There may be a wait on weekends. Even on my weekday visit, it was fairly busy. It might be worth calling ahead (0507-1329-4508).
Nearby spots to check out

After our meal we explored more of the backstreets of 성수동 and found so many cute cafes. 서울숲 is right nearby, perfect for a walk on a nice day. 뚝섬 한강공원 is also within walking distance, making it a great date course.
In particular, 성수동 has lots of unique cafes converted from old factories, which is fun to see. Have a meal at 피제리아히오 and dessert at a nearby cafe for the perfect 성수동 tour.
Final honest thoughts and would I return?

I really enjoyed the meal! If you love wood-fired pizza, I highly recommend visiting at least once. It’s no exaggeration to say the flavor is close to what you get in Italy. Next time I want to try other dishes, and it’d be great to go with a group of friends and share a spread.
성수동 is such a hotspot these days, and 피제리아히오 is definitely part of the reason. I’m already plotting my return, haha.
