Hidden Gem Near Anguk Station: Jaedong Millstone Soft Tofu - A Hidden Soft Tofu Restaurant in Bukchon Hanok Village
A Hidden Gem Discovered by Chance in Bukchon
While exploring Bukchon Hanok Village and feeling hungry, I was pondering where to go when I noticed a sign for "Jaedong Millstone Soft Tofu" while walking towards the Constitutional Court. The modest exterior, which blended well with the hanok atmosphere, gave off the vibe of an old-timey restaurant, so I went in without hesitation.

It took less than 3 minutes to walk from Anguk Station. The location is really great!

Warm Atmosphere Inside the Restaurant
Upon entering, the cozy Korean restaurant vibe was palpable. With only a few tables, it seemed like it would fill up quickly, but fortunately, I arrived just after lunchtime and was able to sit down immediately.

The menu was prominently displayed on the wall, and the owner kindly took my order. It had that warm, local restaurant feel.

Choosing from the Menu
The menu featured a variety of soft tofu dishes such as Chodang Soft Tofu, Seafood Soft Tofu, and Spicy Soft Tofu. The prices were reasonable, ranging from 7,000 to 9,000 KRW.

After some deliberation, I ordered the "Chodang Soft Tofu," which is said to be the signature dish here, and "Dolsot Bibimbap." I heard that Chodang Soft Tofu is a famous type of tofu from the Seoraksan region.
Starting with Generous Side Dishes
After ordering, a variety of side dishes were served shortly. There were kimchi, bean sprouts, spinach, dried radish, etc. The side dishes were plentiful enough to be a meal on their own.

The kimchi was especially refreshing and crunchy, enhancing the appetite. It was nice that side dish refills were freely available.

The Main Dish Finally Arrives!
The long-awaited Chodang Soft Tofu finally arrived, and it made a strong first impression. The tofu looked really white and soft.

Tasting a spoonful... Wow, this is what millstone-ground tofu tastes like. The texture was definitely different from the soft tofu sold in stores. It felt much smoother and had a richer, nuttier flavor.

The Charm of Dolsot Bibimbap
The Dolsot Bibimbap was also served, and the sizzling sound from the hot stone pot was truly appetizing.

Mixing it with gochujang and eating it added the taste of crispy rice, making it really delicious. Eating it with the soft tofu made it feel even more satisfying!
Little Joys Discovered During the Meal
While eating, I noticed that many regular elderly customers seemed to visit. Seeing them naturally exchange greetings with the owner made me realize it truly is a local favorite.

The view of the alleyways of Bukchon Hanok Village through the window added to the pleasant atmosphere.
Value for Money and Satisfaction
The total came to 16,000 KRW, and considering the quantity and taste, I thought it was a great value for money.

Especially considering the quality of the soft tofu, the price was really reasonable. I realized that the claim of being ground with a millstone was not just an empty boast.
Honest Overall Impression
Jaedong Millstone Soft Tofu may not be flashy, but it's a place where you can truly savor the original taste. The soft texture and nutty flavor of the Chodang Soft Tofu, in particular, are hard to find elsewhere.
If you want a hearty meal while touring Bukchon Hanok Village, I highly recommend this restaurant. I would love to visit again if I'm in the area!
