A Late-Night Hangover Cure Spot in Hongdae - Honest Review of Bossung Hoegwan Hongdae Direct Store's Sundae Soup
A Hearty Hangover Soup Found Late at Night in Hongdae
Last night, after hanging out with friends in Hongdae, it was already dawn. As the alcohol wore off, my stomach started to feel really upset, so I urgently searched for a hangover soup place. Walking out from Exit 2 of Hongdae Entrance Station, I noticed the sign for Bossung Hoegwan, which operates 24 hours. I've seen Bossung Hoegwan pop up in various places recently, so I was curious to see what it was like and decided to go in.

From the outside, it looked cleaner and tidier than I expected. The 24-hour sign put me at ease, and even though it was past 2 AM, the gentle lights seeping out gave a warm feeling.

A Vibrant Atmosphere Even at Dawn
When I opened the door and went in, there were more people than I expected. Even at dawn, it was quite bustling with people coming in for hangover cures or late-night snacks. The tables were spaciously arranged, and the clean interior meant there was none of the greasy smell or stuffy feeling typical of soup restaurants.

The staff greeted me kindly and promptly brought over the menu. Maybe it was because it was early morning, but the service was really fast.

Deliberating Over the Menu
The menu featured a variety of soup options like Sundae Soup, Intestine Soup, Bone Hangover Soup, and Boiled Pork Soup. The prices were more reasonable than I expected. Although my goal was to cure my hangover, I had heard that their Sundae Soup was famous, so I ordered the Sundae Soup (8,000 KRW).

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of sundae, but since Bossung Hoegwan is known for its Sundae Soup, I thought I'd try it properly this time.

Hearty Side Dishes
Not long after ordering, the basic side dishes came out, including napa cabbage kimchi, radish kimchi, and seasoned chives. The kimchi was really crisp and refreshing, perfect for my upset stomach. The radish kimchi had a good balance of sweetness and sourness, and the seasoned chives had a refreshing taste.

Even just eating the side dishes made my stomach feel a bit more settled.

The Long-Awaited Sundae Soup Arrives
After about 10 minutes, the steaming hot Sundae Soup arrived. The first impression was overwhelming. The broth was rich in color, and the savory smell made my mouth water.

The sundae was thick and plentiful, and there was a decent amount of pork, making it look hearty. A spoonful of the broth filled my mouth with a rich, savory taste, instantly soothing my stomach.

Falling for the Charm of Sundae
Taking a bite of the sundae, it was filled to the brim yet soft. Usually, sundae can be greasy, but this sundae was not greasy at all, with a savory yet clean taste. Especially when eaten with the broth, it was a fantastic combination.

The pork was also tenderly boiled, so it wasn't dry but moist. I wasn't a fan of sundae before, but after eating here, my opinion completely changed.

The Deep Flavor of the Broth
The broth was truly exquisite. It was rich yet refreshing, not greasy, yet had a deep flavor. My stomach was upset from drinking, but after a few spoonfuls of the broth, it felt much better.

The seasoning was just to my taste. It wasn't too salty or bland, and it was a flavor that wasn't overwhelming even after continuous eating.
Value for Money and Portion Size
For 8,000 KRW, the portion size was really good value for money. There was plenty of sundae, a decent amount of meat, and most importantly, they gave a lot of broth, so I could eat to my heart's content.

Especially being able to have such a hearty meal at dawn was really nice. I realized I could come here anytime I was hungry after hanging out in Hongdae.
Service and Atmosphere
The staff were really friendly. Even at dawn, they served with energy and weren't tired. They frequently refilled the water and immediately replenished the side dishes when they ran out.
The store was also well-maintained, completely breaking the stereotype of a soup restaurant.
Nearby Attractions
After leaving Bossung Hoegwan, I walked around Hongdae Street a bit, and even at dawn, I could still feel the vibrant charm of Hongdae. There's Hongdae Playground nearby, and plenty of cafes, making it a great spot for a daytime date course.
Especially with several cafes within a 5-minute walk, it's a perfect location to grab dessert after eating Sundae Soup.
Honest Overall Review
It was much more satisfying than I expected. At first, I thought it would be ordinary since it's a chain, but the broth had a really deep flavor, and the sundae was truly delicious. The fact that it operates 24 hours is a huge advantage in Hongdae.

I think I'll come back when I need a hangover cure or a hearty meal in Hongdae. It's a place I'd recommend to my friends. I also recommend it to those who don't usually like sundae to try it at least once!
