Curious About Those Surfing Photos on Instagram

I became curious about the surfing photos I often saw on Instagram lately, so I decided to visit Yeongdeok Buhung Beach. A friend recommended it, saying, "It's really great for surfing there," and when I actually went, it was much better than I expected! It took about three hours from Seoul, and as soon as I got out of the car, the smell of the sea hit me, making me feel like, 'Ah, I'm on a trip' haha.

The address is Jangsa-ri, Namjeong-myeon, Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and it's just a little north of Jangsa Beach. It was really easy to find with navigation, so accessibility was excellent.

Buhung Beach's Unique First Impression

The first impression upon arrival was, "Wow, this place is completely private!" Jangsa Beach was crowded, but Buhung Beach was relatively quiet, which was nice. It was especially quiet except for a few surfers. The sand was a bit rougher than Jangsa Beach, but it wasn't uncomfortable to walk on.

The color of the sea was really beautiful! Even though the weather was cloudy, it was so pretty, and I couldn't imagine how much prettier it would be on a clear day. The waves were just right, making it perfect for beginners to practice surfing.

A Special Experience at the Surfing Center

The Buhung Surfing Center is right next to the beach, so you can rent surfing equipment and use the shower facilities. The staff kindly explained surfing to me, and as I listened, I wanted to try it too, haha. Next time, I definitely want to try surfing!

The surfers looked really cool. Riding the waves looked so free. The rental fee for a surfing suit is about 10,000 won, which seemed quite affordable.

Now I Understand Why It's Called the Mecca of Car Camping

We went for a day trip, but there were so many people car camping! There was a wide space to park right in front of the beach, making it perfect for car camping. It's said to be private land, and the owner comes to collect about 10,000 won. That seems really cheap.

At night, the stars seemed like they would be really visible. With a clear sky you can't see in the city, I definitely want to come back for an overnight stay and try car camping! The restroom was small but clean, so it seemed like there wouldn't be any inconvenience for car camping.

Nearby Attractions and Food

If you go a little south from Buhung Beach, there's Jangsa Beach, and you can also visit the Jangsa Landing Operation Victory Memorial Hall to learn about history. We didn't get to visit the memorial hall, but we plan to next time.

We had mulhoe at Sinhangman for lunch, and it was really delicious! The sashimi was fresh, and the cold broth was refreshing, perfect after playing in the sea. The price was reasonable, and the portion was generous, so we were satisfied.

The True Charm of the Blue Road Drive

Buhung Beach is also a section of the Yeongdeok Blue Road. Driving while enjoying the sea view was really enjoyable! Especially driving along the coastal road, the sea scenery was truly beautiful.

It was recently listed as a UNESCO Global Geopark. Perhaps that's why there seemed to be many geologically significant places. It's highly recommended as a driving course!

Visiting Tips by Season

We visited in June, and the weather was nice, and the sea temperature was just right for water activities. It might be crowded during the summer peak season, so if you want to enjoy it quietly, spring or autumn might be a good time to visit.

I've heard that people surf even in winter. Surfers who like the rough winter waves gather, so it seems like there would be different charms each season.

Practical Visiting Information

Public transportation might be a bit inconvenient, so I recommend using a car. You can follow National Road 7 from Pohang towards Yeongdeok, and the road isn't difficult, with the added fun of seeing the sea along the way.

Surfing equipment rental is available at the Buhung Surfing Center, and you can use the shower facilities. I recommend contacting them in advance to check their operation status!

Honest Overall Impression and Revisit Plans

It was much better than expected! I highly recommend it to those who prefer a quiet and natural atmosphere over crowded beaches. It would be a paradise for those interested in surfing or who love car camping.

The downside was the lack of convenience facilities. There aren't any stores or restaurants nearby, so it's better to prepare in advance. Still, even that inconvenience felt like a natural charm, haha.

Next time, I definitely want to come for a 1-night, 2-day trip to try car camping and surfing! Just imagining having a barbecue while watching the stars feels healing. It seems like a perfect place to come with family, couples, or friends, and also to come alone and relax while watching the sea!
